HOW SOON AFTER MY PROCEDURE WILL I BE ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL ACTIVITIES?
It is very important that you follow any post-operative instructions given to you by your surgeon and our surgical staff.
CAN I EAT OR DRINK PRIOR TO MY SURGICAL PROCEDURE?
It is very important that you do NOT eat or drink anything before your surgery otherwise your surgery may be cancelled. Do not eat or drink anything, including water, after midnight the day of your procedure. You can brush your teeth on the day of surgery.
WHO WILL CONTACT ME PRIOR TO MY PROCEDURE?
One of our pre-operative nurses will be contacting you prior to the day of surgery to perform a pre-operative evaluation, explain your specific instructions and provide your arrival time.
WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY OF SURGERY LIKE?
Based on your type of surgery your arrival time will usually be around 1 – 1 1/2 hours prior to your scheduled time for surgery. When you arrive, the receptionist will assist you with various forms that you are required to complete, including consent forms. Typically, your recovery will be between one and two hours prior to being discharged.
WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA WILL I HAVE?
Depending on the type of procedure you’re having, there are a variety of types of anesthesia that you may receive. The anesthesia depends on your health, the type of surgery, and the recommendations of your anesthesiologist, who you will meet on the day of surgery.
At this time, they will interview you, discuss your anesthesia type along with what you can expect during your post-operative care, which will include a plan for pain management.
WILL I NEED SOMEONE TO TAKE ME HOME?
Yes. You must make arrangements for a responsible adult to take you home after surgery. You will not be allowed to leave alone or drive yourself home if receiving sedation or anesthesia. It also strongly suggested that you have someone stay with your during the first 24 hours following surgery.
